Western Coachwhip

Western Coachwhip (M. f. testaceus) from Gillespie County, Texas

Western Coachwhips intergrade with Eastern Coachwhips in the western counties of the Brazos Valley.  Western Coachwhips are highly variable but are usually light tan overall.

Eastern Coachwhip

Eastern Coachwhips from the eastern part of the Brazos Valley will typically have dark heads and forebodies and light tan tails.

Melanistic (Black) Eastern Coachwhip from Walker Co., TX.

Some specimens in our area are almost solid black.
